The teachers work hard, and are treated like students by the admin. If you are thinking about coming to this district from another state, don't.

I am impressed by the positive climate that was created for my son and daughter when they attended Somerton Middle School as 6th, 7th and 8th graders. I became involved with the school as a parent and was able to see how much time the teachers and principal spend to get to know my kids. Not only did they care about them academically but also as a productive member of the school. I felt welcome at the school. A safe, friendly environment was seen towards students, parents, and staff. There was a lot of support in the school. Not only does SMS have daily tutoring but also has extra curricular activities for students through the 21st Century Program and sports.

I don't recomend this school because teachers don't seem to care about students at all and they don't watch over students on what goes on witht teenagers. My daughter went to this school and all she learned was how to hang around with the wrong people and get bad grades.

Teachers in 19 States Allowed to Physically Punish Students
As of 2014, nineteen states still allow corporal punishment – spanking and paddling the most common choices – in their public schools. However, some argue that not only are these punishments physically harmful, they also are disproportionately administered to students of color. As a result, House democrats have taken up the issue in a new bill that would ban all forms of corporal punishment nationwide.
