Don't let the wonderful comments you see online fool you. For the past 7-10 years, Gotha Middle School has gotten significantly worse. There is one particular teacher that has been in honors algebra for several years, and she publicly taunts her students on a routine basis. Parents have complained about her, year after year. Principal does nothing. There is little that can be done to foment a nurturing educational environment if the harassment and bullying begins in the classroom. Their anti bullying measures are a sham - a mere exercise in form, but not substance. Kids get beaten up, their lunchboxes get kicked in, their books and bicycles stolen. Principal does nothing. Students have been found engaging in sexual activity, drugs and guns have been confiscated. Principal does nothing unless it gets into the papers, then new measures are passed, that are just like the old measures. Things quickly return to the same old thing, and nothing really is changed. FYI - I have had continued contact with the student body for over 7-8 years, and have a better perspective than most about what is going on here. Dig into my allegations, and you will find that I am telling the truth. Believe me - or don't, I don't care. The bottom line is that kids do not feel safe, both inside and out of the classroom. They unfortunately do not speak up about it, for fear of getting moved out of their honors courses. These kids deserve more from OCPS, but aren't getting it. When will GMS truly change?
