I can't praise this school enough. My grandson came home in the first few weeks of school with amazing stories of help and cooperation from teachers and peers. First, the snack machine in the cafeteria was not taking dollars. He returned to his lunch table, put his head down and cried. He thought he would have to go hungry as he hadn't packed a lunch as usual. Several students asked if they could help. Three boys pooled their quarters to offer him 75 cents for the snack. When he recounted this story at home, he glowed with happiness. He was lifted up instead of being pushed down or bullied for crying during his first week as a big sixth grader. What a wonderful first memory! The next day he went to his fifth period class and noticed a 10 dollar bill in the trash can. Had someone thrown it away accidentally or had the teacher planted it? We don't know. But when he told the teacher about the discovery, he was praised and given his first Eagle Eye, He didn't exactly understand what the Eagle Eye was this day, but later he found out it was a token to be used for a prize drawing every Friday. How exciting! Eagle Eyes are a win- win for students at Fort Clarke. The last but not least experience took place on the first day to bring band instruments to school. On the way to the band room he tripped and fell. His large instrument case went flying and he skinned his knee. Before he could get up, several eighth graders offered him a hand and helped him collect his things. You might expect laughter or teasing from a crowd of older boys, but that didn't happen. He was genuinely offered a helping hand. Most parents dread the middle school experience and we are no different, But as a result of these events we now have positive expectations. We know our son (grandson) is in a good place. He will be able to grow strong here because he will be nurtured with kindness. So for those reading this long letter, I hope you will not fear middle school if your student is enrolled here. Expect the best, and you will get the best from Fort Clarke Middle School. Sincerely, Amazed Grandmother
