School Reviews

A public school with rolling, year-round admissions. My child has attended the Yi Hwang Academy of Language Excellence (YHALE for short) for 3 years. The Korean-English program is very strong, with a large majority of heritage learners. The Mandarin-English program that my son is in, isn't majority heritage learners but still very good. His teachers have been excellent, and I observe that my investment in Mandarin immersion preschool has been protected. He remains a fluent speaker and expanded his literacy skills. For children without a Mandarin or Korean language background, it would be a difficult but worthwhile transition, if parents are committed to supplementing with other resources at home. ESOL, MSOL, and KSOL are offered, however! Another challenge at the school is Singapore Math: We have an amazing Math Coordinator that trains teachers to use that methodology, which is also hard to transition to in later grades unless your child is gifted/advanced.
